Highway Accident Leaves 2 Dead in New Jersey
May 30, 2018
It is no secret that highways are the site of many motor vehicle accidents each year. There is always high number of vehicles on a highway at any given time. Mix that with the high speeds those vehicles travel at and accidents are bound to happen.
Whether a single-car accident, a multi-vehicle accident, or an accident between a car and a truck, the consequences can be catastrophic and even fatal.
Such was the case in a recent highway accident between a school bus and a dump truck in New Jersey. The school bus and dump truck collided on Route 80, leaving the bus on its side in the median — the body of the bus separated from the chassis.
The school bus was carrying 38 fifth-graders and seven adults on their way to a field trip. One child and one adult ended up dead while 43 people were injured. Some of the patients ended up in critical condition and required surgery.
The crash is under investigation and officials are looking into whether the bus driver made an illegal U-turn prior to the fatal crash.
Highway Accident Injuries Can Be Catastrophic
While most of the victims are lucky enough to be alive after the fatal crash, dealing with their injuries will be a whole other battle. Again, the high speed with which vehicles travel on highways means the injuries that stem from a highway accident can be catastrophic.
Some common catastrophic injuries include the following:
- Spinal cord injury
- Scarring and disfigurement
- Traumatic brain injury
- Amputation injuries
- Vision loss
What these types of injuries tend to have in common is that they can impact you for the rest of your life. This impact is not just physical, it can also be emotionally and financially taxing.
Wrapping your head and future around a catastrophic injury can be tough, especially if you were injured because of another’s negligence. When it comes to holding a negligent party responsible for their wrongdoing, you will need the help of an experienced lawyer.
